Detailed Itinerary 

Departure from Mumbai Port 

Meet your guide and depart by coach towards the historic waterfront area of South Mumbai.  

VISIT 1 – Gateway of India 

Arrive at the iconic Gateway of India, Mumbai’s most famous waterfront monument overlooking the Arabian Sea. 

Here you will: 

  • View the grand Indo-Saracenic monument built during the British era 
  • Enjoy views of Mumbai Harbour 
  • Board the ferry for Elephanta Island  

FERRY RIDE TO ELEPHANTA ISLAND 

Board the ferry and enjoy a scenic boat ride across Mumbai Harbour to Elephanta Island. 

Ferry Crossing Duration: 

  • Approximately 1 hour each way 

During the journey, enjoy views of: 

  • Mumbai skyline 
  • Harbour activity and naval vessels 
  • Arabian Sea waterfront scenery  

VISIT 2 – Elephanta Island 

Upon arrival at Elephanta Island, proceed towards the caves. 

Access to the caves: 

  • Approximately 20–25 minutes walking from the jetty 
    OR 
  • Optional short toy-train ride (approximately 5 minutes), subject to operation 

After reaching the base area, climb approximately 120 steps to the cave entrance. 

Along the pathway, you will find: 

  • Local souvenir stalls 
  • Small cafés and refreshment vendors 
  • Scenic island surroundings  

VISIT 3 – Elephanta Caves 

Explore the famous Elephanta Caves, a remarkable complex of rock-cut cave temples dating back to around the 8th century AD. 

Inside the caves, you will see: 

  • Massive stone-carved temple halls 
  • Ancient Hindu sculptures and bas-reliefs 
  • Mythological scenes from Hindu traditions 
  • Impressive carvings dedicated to Lord Shiva

Return Ferry to Mumbai 

After the guided visit, descend from the caves and return to the jetty. 

Board the ferry back to Mumbai and enjoy another scenic harbour crossing.  

Return to Mumbai Port 

Upon arrival at the Gateway of India area, rejoin your coach and return to the port.  

Important Information 

  • The excursion involves considerable walking and stair climbing 
  • Guests should be physically fit to participate 
  • Approximately 120 steps must be climbed to reach the caves 
  • If the toy train is not operating, additional walking of 20–25 minutes each way is required 
  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are strongly recommended 
  • The tour is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties 
  • Ferry timings may vary depending on weather and harbour conditions 
  • Places on the excursion may be limited, therefore advance booking is recommended
